Chicago-to-St. Louis Amtrak service to resume after halt caused by freight train derailment
Amtrak passenger service disrupted by a freight train derailment is expected to resume Wednesday along the Chicago-to-St. Louis line.
Amtrak spokesman Mark Magliari says the accident near Pontiac forced the cancellation of four trains on the Lincoln service Tuesday. He tells The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/1Cp78g1 ) that full service should be restored Wednesday.
Monday night's accident involved a Union Pacific train with three locomotives and 105 cars loaded with corn. Eight of the cars derailed, crushing a van parked along the track. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the driver got out of the van in time and was not hurt.
No one on the train was hurt, but a rail worker was treated for a hand injury.
Davis says the cause of the accident is under investigation.
