Apple Closes In On Fitbit As World's Biggest Wearables Company

In its first full quarter of Apple Watch sales, Apple Inc. debuted as the second-largest wearables company behind FitBit Inc. , selling just 800,000 fewer units than the market leader, according to new data from IDC. Total shipment volume for wearables rose 223% to 18.1 million in the second quarter, fueled by both Apple and Xiaomi's entry into the market. Apple sold 3.6 million watches, bringing its total market share to 20%. Xiaomi sold 3.1 million Mi Bands, bringing its share of the global wearables market to 17%, while FitBit's share slid to 24.3% from 30.4% a year ago.
