Apparel Retailers Saw Online Sales Spike On 'Manic Monday'

Apparel retailers, in need of good news during a holiday season stymied by warm weather and other factors, experienced a year-over-year online sales spike on Monday, according to Slice Intelligence. Sales at Old Navy leaped 215.6%; at Ralph Lauren Corp. sales were up 201.6%; struggling brand Banana Republic was up 199.8%; and Land's End was up 189.8%. Outside of apparel, beauty retailer Sephora saw e-commerce sales jump 37%, consumer electronics store Best Buy Co Inc. saw them jump 78.2%, and home improvement store Lowe's Companies Inc. experienced a 46.8% increase. Amazon.com Inc. was up 33.9% from last year. Some retailers like Kmart (-4.6%), Anthropologie (-13.4%), and Walmart (-7.9%) saw declines. Overall, Monday's sales were up 27% from last year. Manic Monday, the final Monday before Christmas, usually sees a leap in online sales.
