4 years after Newtown, gun control advocates tailor efforts
Many gun control advocates may be disappointed NRA-backed Donald Trump won the presidential election and Congress is still controlled by Republicans, but they're pushing ahead anyway with a long-term strategy.
Activists say they've generated a base of support since the Sandy Hook school shooting four years ago that allows them to bypass Washington. Besides working to elected like-minded lawmakers, such as Democratic Senate candidate Maggie Hassan (HASS'-in) in New Hampshire, they're planning to continue lobbying for state background checks and other laws.
They are also pushing businesses to take action, such as barring people carrying guns from their establishments.
