2 brothers from Massachusetts give posthumous $11M gift to their upstate NY college alma mater
Two brothers from western Massachusetts who graduated from the same upstate New York college have posthumously donated $11 million dollars to their alma mater.
Union College in Schenectady (skeh-NEHK'-ta-dee) says the gift is from the Feigenbaum Foundation, created by Armand and Donald Feigenbaum of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Armand graduated from Union in 1942, followed four years later by his brother Donald. Both men died in their hometown, Donald at 87 in March 2013 and Armand at age 94 last November.
After working as engineers at General Electric, the brothers founded General Systems in Pittsfield in 1968. The systems engineering firm helps design better operational systems for corporations and governments.
Union says part of the brothers' gift will be used to renovate the 163-year-old Visual Arts building and provide scholarships to students from the Pittsfield area.
