1 worker injured in 55-gallon drum explosion at Ohio plant that manufactures aroma chemicals

A chemical explosion at a manufacturing plant in southwest Ohio has injured a worker.

Fire and police officials in Monroe say the explosion at Alfrebro LLC occurred Friday afternoon. Authorities say the worker's condition is unknown.

Monroe Fire Department Chief John Centers says the explosion occurred as the worker was transferring a chemical into a 55-gallon drum. He says a chemical reaction caused the drum to explode.

A message seeking comment from Alfrebro hasn't been returned.

The company's website says it manufactures natural and synthetic aroma chemicals, extracts and distillates.
