In Seattle, San Francisco and the New York City borough of Brooklyn, food costs at least 30 percent more than the national average, according to a report from Rent.com. The report looked at data from the Council for Community and Economic Research’s Cost of Living Index which compares the price of supermarket staples like coffee, eggs and milk.
