Tweet Business of the Day: wendyo Salon

Who: Wendy Ouellette, 34, @wendyosalon

What: Ouellette opened her namesake business, wendyo Salon, after working as a hairdresser for 16 years.

When: September of 2009.

How: Ouellette received encouragement from a fellow entrepreneur to get started with her own company. She has since hired her mother as a secretary and her sister as a hair stylist.

"I am a single mom and more of a creative person," she said. "[My friend] was savvy with the scary stuff, but I have developed more of a business mind. Now he will ask me my opinion on things for his business."

Where: Acton, Mass.

In her own words: "It may be a rocky time, but we have been experiencing progressive success," Ouellette said. "It was a lot of hard work, but I got a lot of support from friends and family."
