Tweet Business of the Day: Simple60
Who: Co-founders Ryan Duwe, 27, and Brent Kettler, 32 @simple_60
What: Online training for Mac users on applications from iPhoto and Garage Band to Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
When: January 2011
How: After working in the IT field for more than 10 years, Kettler, decided to pick up a second job at the Apple store in Naples, Florida. A self- described Apple fanatic, Kettler said while working there he saw a niche online business opportunity for teaching new Mac users the basics – and he jumped on it.
"Naples is a retirement community, and the people [who came into the store] were mostly 60 and older and all had the same questions," he said. "There was a huge element within the population that was consistent, and they wanted training outside the purchase."
From there, he created Simple 60 to offer an online channel for Mac training.
Where: Naples, Fla.
In his own words: "You have the comfort of your own home, and can still have an intimate experience," Duwe said of the training structure. "It's really a happy medium that, over the long haul, will make us successful—it's safe, quiet and comfortable."
