Small Business Spotlight: Sunshine Hope
Who: Kelley Faust, @sunshinehopecom
What: Books and presentations that teach children goal-setting skills
When: 2007
Where: Philadelphia area
How: After experiencing challenges in her own life, founder and CEO Kelley Faust says she launched Sunshine Hope to teach children about leadership development.
Faust authored a book called "The Superpower of Me!" that is sold through the organization’s website and was included in the National Bereavement Resource Guide. She also published a workbook called "Hopeful, Resilient and Strong,” which has been used during seminars like the YMCA’s Leaders and Training Program.
“I wrote ‘The Superpower of Me!’ to teach children that they are tougher than any tough times,” said Faust, who worked for 13 years in pharmaceutical sales before becoming a certified teacher.
Sunshine Hope was recently accepted as a partner of America's Promise, an organization founded by former U.S. Secretary of State General Colin Powell and his wife, Alma. America’s Promise aims to lower the dropout rate in U.S. schools. Faust’s organization also partners with companies to shed light on corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Quote from the owner: “I’m working hard to globalize this movement. I strongly believe in the power each child possesses to create great futures for themselves. And I want to help.”
