Small Business Spotlight: DealSpot
Who: Mark Pauley, @dealspotrocks
What: Mobile application for consumers and small businesses
When: December 2012
Where: Virginia
How: Mark Pauley began developing his own applications about two and a half years ago. This December, Pauley is launching an Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) iOS and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android app that he says will offer consumers easy access to small business listings.
The concept for DealSpot is similar to Groupon (NASDAQ:GRPN) and Yelp (NYSE:YELP). Small business owners can add their businesses to DealSpot’s list of businesses, and consumers can use the app to search for the best local deals. For instance, Pauley explained, DealSpot users looking for the cheapest phones can see the deals closest to them on a map.
Quote from the owner: “I hoped to make a conglomerate where people can find small businesses,” Pauley said. “Small businesses can advertise themselves for free. In the second phase, I plan on doing something similar to Groupon so that businesses can offer deals in the app.”
