Small Business of the Day: Perennial Designs

Who: Owner Nancy Wright, 62, @pdfloral

What: Floral arrangements, gifts and home and garden décor.

When: 1993

How: Wright was previously working in nonprofit arts business management when her husband built her a studio in their  home to work on her floral designs. In 1993 when her employer wanted to expand her hours without an increase in salary, she decided to turn her hobby into a full-time career.

"I started doing floral design [from home], then a space became available in 1996," she said. "We've been through a lot of ups and downs and challenges—especially these past three years."

Where: Needham, Mass.

In her own words: "Customer service is our key, we go overboard when it comes to giving people what they want."
