Small Business of the Day: DiggersList
Who: Matt Knox, 41, @diggerslist
What: An online marketplace for home-improvement products
When: January 2009
How: While working in the insurance business, Knox encountered builders and contractors who were looking to sell excess appliances and building materials. Knox was inspired to fill this void, so he called his brother, Johnny Munger, 27, to help him create DiggersList, a free home improvement classifieds site.
“I kept hearing them say they had excess stuff; nice stuff like trim molding, and there was no one specific home-improvement marketplace where they could sell this,” Knox said.
Where: Los Angeles
In his own words: “In a $300 billion home improvement space, there is not an online marketplace just dedicated to this, so this really resonated with them. We are the only ones. Our products come from the architectural salvage community, restoring salvaging, and a very large group of Habitat for Humanity restorers.”
