Small Business of the Day: Carousel Designs
Who: Co-owners Allan Sicat, 34, and Jonathan Hartley, 36, @carouseldesigns
What: A baby bedding company
When: 1988
How: Hartley's family started the business in the 1980s. After graduating West Point with Sicat, the two purchased the business from the Hartley family in 2007.
"We had the same major at West Point; after we got out of the army we decided it was the right time [to take over the business]," Hartley said. "I wanted someone like [Allan] and he had moved his family to Georgia. It seemed like a good idea."
Where: Douglassville, Ga.
In his own words: "One of the things that has helped us grow is the ability to differentiate ourselves and the way we integrate technology with the company," Sicat said. "Unlike other baby bedding companies, we have this notion of custom bedding and allow customers to visualize what it would look like for them online. We were one of the first companies to do that on the web."
