The maker of canned chicken sold under the Member’s Mark brand at Sam’s Club has recalled more than 96,000 pounds of the meat on concerns that the cans may contain pieces of hard plastic.

Tony Downs Food said affected cans of chicken breast were made Nov. 28-29. They were sold at Sam’s Club locations nationwide and online.

The issue was discovered on March 27 after two customers complained about foreign material found inside the cans.

Customers who purchased any of the recalled packages should throw them out or return them to the store, the USDA said.

The recall includes 2.5-ounce cans in a case containing six cans of “Member’s Mark Premium Natural Chunk Chicken Breast in Water,” with lot code 17333, case code 9816 and a use-by date of Nov. 29, 2020. The recall also includes six-packs of 50-ounce cans labeled “Member’s Mark Food Service Premium Natural Chunk Chicken Breast in Water,” with lot code 17332, case code 9817 and a use-by date of Nov. 28, 2019.

The products are also labeled “P-65” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
