New record highs for U.S. stocks today - The Dow Jones Industrial Average posting its 27 record close of the year, ending the day above 17700 for the first time ever.

The S&P 500 also ending the day at a record - led by gains in retail and energy.

Shares of Gap (NYSE:GPS) falling after hours following the retailer’s reported third quarter revenues that missed Wall Street estimates while earnings per share slightly beat expectations.

Meanwhile, Japanese air bag manufacturer Takata facing tough questioning today - company officials testifying before the senate committee that's investigating millions of potentially deadly air bags. Takata's global quality chief apologized to the victims of faulty airbags, but stopped short of taking full responsibilityfor deaths linked to the scandal.
