Putting Fashion Sense to Work
We’re highlighting small businesses from around the country as nominated by you, our readers. If your favorite small business is using Twitter to communicate with customers, let us know about it @fbsmallbiz with the hashtag #mysbc, and it may be featured as an upcoming Small Business of the Day.
Small Business of the Day: Julicia's Creations
Who: Julicia Hernandez, 41, @JuliciaCreates
What: Handcrafted, custom leather accessories
When: 2005
How: Hernandez attended the Fashion Institute in Los Angeles, and went on to work in the fashion industry there for about 10 years. She later moved to Arizona for her husband's work, and became a stay-at-home mom, continuing to sew and design on the side.
"I saw a show on DIY (Do-It-Yourself Network) about crafters across America making leather accessories, and I wanted to learn to do that," she said.
She taught herself from scratch and began to sell online as well as at different crafting events in Arizona and California later that year.
Where: Buckeye, Ariz.
Biggest lesson learned from a customer: "It's a hard thing when it comes to customer satisfaction," she said. "Everyone has their own way of saying or doing, but if a customer is not satisfied that leaves someone out there to talk badly about your business. You do whatever it takes to make them happy."
