Police: FBI lacks evidence to continue probe of child images on North Las Vegas mayor's iPad

Officials in the city of North Las Vegas say the FBI has dropped an investigation stemming from Mayor John Lee's request for detectives to remove images from his iPad that he suspected showed child pornography.

A statement from the city's Police Department cites "lack of prosecutorial evidence."

Lee said Friday he knew he didn't do anything wrong but wanted an independent investigation and is relieved the case is closed.

The city's new police chief, Alexander Perez, asked in May for the FBI to review how the department handled Lee's October 2014 request to clear the images from his iPad.

Lee said he didn't know how they got there.

A newspaper reported in May that browser links on the tablet computer showed at least one website displaying possible child pornography originating from a foreign country.
