Small Business Spotlight: Karen Presecan Photography
Who: Karen Presecan, @K_P_Photog
What: Family, pet and product photography
When: 2008
Where: Stafford, Va.
How: Karen Presecan says she took up photography as a way to pass the time when her husband, Hank, a U.S. Marine, was deployed to Iraq in 2007. She took classes and attended workshops to improve her photography skills before eventually launching Karen Presecan Photography in September 2008.
“I was always handy with a camera,” Presecan said.
Presecan takes photos of families and their pets. She also does work for companies looking for photos of their products. While most of her clients for family photos are in Virginia and North Carolina, she says she gets work orders from other states as well .
And as the business continued to grow, Hank Presecan began working with his wife to help run it.
“It’s nice to work from home and make it a family business,” Karen Presecan said.
Quote from the owner: “I like to build relationships with my clients. I usually email them back-and-forth, and then meet with them to talk about the photo shoot. I like to draw out their personality instead of just having them pose.”
