Small Business Spotlight: Alexis Gopal Jewelry
Who: Alexis Gopal, @AlexisGopalJ
What: Jewelry designer
When: 2006
Where: Bridgewater, Conn.
How: Alexis Gopal was a practicing physician when she decided to take some time off to spend time with her two daughters. It was then that she returned to jewelry design, a childhood hobby. Although she didn’t expect to be the owner of a jewelry business, her custom designs became the foundation for Alexis Gopal Jewelry.
“I never intended to make it a business,” Gopal said, “but I got a lot of feedback that happened often enough. I developed a local following here in Connecticut.”
Gopal’s jewelry has been included in gift bags at award shows like the Golden Globes, and her latest collection was featured at New York Fashion Week. Her earrings and necklaces are popular items among customers and boutiques.
Quote from the owner: “I try to make more than just pretty trinkets. I try to make them special and make something that has real personal meaning so that women feel like they can pass it on.”
