Icahn: We Have to Go Against the Establishment in D.C.
During an interview on the Intelligence Report with Trish Regan, billionaire investor Carl Icahn explained why he is putting his support behind presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“We have to go against the establishment in both Washington and corporate America. He’s [Trump] not beholden to anybody and he can stand up to them more than the normal politico.”
Icahn added, “There’s a lot of dysfunction in Washington today. A quintessential example right now is this highway bill and not doing it and repatriating the funds over in foreign countries.”
Trump has been criticized for not disclosing specifics when talking about his various policies. Icahn said he doesn’t agree with the scrutiny the candidate is facing.
“I think it’s a bit of an unfair criticism,” Icahn said. “I don’t see too much coming from any candidate. I think it’s a little premature at this time. He did come up with a tax plan and I really think that he’s going to have a lot to say. I think we need somebody in Washington, sort of like a Teddy Roosevelt, who’s going to stand up to the establishment.”
Another presidential candidate rising in recent GOP polls is Carly Fiorina. However, Icahn said her business background may impact her chances at winning.
“I really don’t think Carly can beat the Democrats,” he said. “I think they’re going to pull out all the stuff on Hewlett-Packard and all the stuff on Lucent. She has to really address them and I don’t think she has.”
