Head South for Lowest Gas Prices in U.S.
GasBuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan on the falling prices of oil and gasoline.
Gas prices across the country continued to fall this week.
In 15 states, the average cost of a regular gallon of gas is now under $3, according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan.
“47.4% of all stations [tracked by GasBuddy] are under $3 a gallon,” DeHaan said. GasBuddy pulls data from 133,000 stations in the U.S.
And the savings are adding up. DeHaan said Americans are spending around $980 million less per day on gas than last year at this time. And compared to two years earlier – when gas prices were even higher – they’re saving $2.2 billion a day.
If you’re looking for the lowest gas prices, though, you’ll need to head south. Here’s a look at the states with the lowest gas prices in the U.S., as of Thursday:
1. Missouri: $2.78/gallon 2. South Carolina: $2.85/gallon 3. Tennessee: $2.85/gallon 4. Mississippi: $2.87 gallon 5. Virginia $2.89/gallon
And here are the states with the highest prices:
1. Hawaii: $4.07/gallon 2. Alaska $3.77/gallon 3. California: $3.45/gallon 4. New York: $3.45 5. Connecticut: $3.41
