France Terror Attack at U.S. Firm Prompts Stepped-Up Global Security Effort
The brazen terrorist attack at an Air Products & Chemicals (NYSE:APD), facility in L'Isle-d'Abeau, France this morning is igniting outrage in the U.S. and around the world.
The company which is headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania employs over 20,000 people in 50 countries. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, in a statement today, said the state is stepping up security measures.
"Frances and I are saddened by the horrific attack of violence and loss of life in France. Air Products is an important part of Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley community. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and all Air Products employees today. Pennsylvania State Police is aware of the incident and monitoring any potential threats."
Air Products & Chemicals spokesperson Art George confirmed and condemned the attacks in an emailed statement to FOXBusiness.com. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and want to express our sympathies to the family of the victim of this unspeakable tragedy.” The statement also addressed security measures. “Security has been increased at locations around the world as a precautionary measure.”
On Friday, Chief Executive Officer Seifi Ghasemi issued a separate statement.
Activist investor Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square is Air Producs & Chemicals largest shareholder with a 9.6% stake according to a March 2015 filing.
Air Products & Chemicals was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 and serves several industries including energy, electronics, chemicals, steel and manufacturing with various gas and chemical products.
