Elon Musk backs ‘secret’ comedy project: Report

With space exploration and electric vehicle companies already established and making headlines, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk now plans to dabble in comedy, according to a report Tuesday.

The SpaceX and Tesla founder is partnering with “several former top staffers and writers” from The Onion satirical news site on a “secret” comedy project, the Daily Beast reported. Musk is purportedly providing financial support for the project, but will not have editorial control or be involved in day-to-day operations.

Two former Onion staffers confirmed to the Daily Beast that they were working on a “brand-new comedy project,” though they did not address Musk’s reported involvement. Musk addressed his purported involvement in the comedy project in a statement to the Daily Beast.

“It’s pretty obvious that comedy is the next frontier after electric vehicles, space exploration, and brain-computer interfaces,” Musk said. “Don’t know how anyone’s not seeing this.”

If it materializes, the comedy project will represent new territory for Musk, who has been involved with several innovative initiatives in recent years. Aside from Tesla and SpaceX, Musk founder The Boring Company, a startup that digs tunnels to facilitate experimental “Hyperloop” rapid transit systems and, occasionally, also sells flamethrowers.

Musk has a net worth of roughly $21 billion, according to Forbes.
