Small Business of the day: Chic CEO

Who: Stephanie Burns, 32, @chicceo

What: A Website that offers tips and information for female entrepreneurs to start up

When: December 2010

How: The idea for the company came to Burns while she was attending grad school for her MBA at National University. She found that the basics for would-be entrepreneurs were not easily accessible on the Web. Her idea was supported by female friends, several of whom had started side businesses, and couldn't find the things they needed to know about writing business plans, incorporating and more.

"I wanted my company to be a place where my girlfriends and I wanted to go and feel we belonged," Burns said. "I wrote the business plan in grad school and was actually on Wheel of Fortune that same year, and won some money, which I used to start my Website."

Where: San Diego, Calif.

Biggest lesson learned from users: "Every one of our female entrepreneurs says they wish they had just gotten started," Burns said. "As women, we want to make everything perfect, have all of the answers, and make sure everything is right. Nothing will ever be perfect…the sooner you get started, the better. Or you will be waiting forever."
