British Telecom Sues Google for Patent Infringement

British Telecom is reportedly suing Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) for patent infringement regarding a number of the U.S. tech giant’s key products, including its search, maps and music services as well as the Android platform.

The U.K. telecom company joins Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), which have all accused Android of violating patent laws.

BT claimed that Google infringed on one or more of six of its patents. The company has asked for unspecific damages and a trial by jury.

"This is a patent infringement action brought by BT against Google based on Google's ongoing and pervasive infringement of BT patents," the company said in a statement.

A BT spokesman said it was a "well-considered claim" and believes the company has a "strong case of infringement" against Google.

Google has denied and called meritless the allegations.

"We believe these claims are groundless and we will vigorously defend ourselves against them," a Google spokesperson said.
