Airlines Collected Nearly $5.7B in Fees Last Year

Airline financial data released Monday by the U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics revealed    U.S. airlines collected nearly $5.7 billion in baggage and reservation fees in 2010.

The BTS identifies baggage and reservation fees separately, with all other passenger fees recorded in larger categories with other revenue.

Last year airlines collected $3.4 billion in baggage fees and $2.3 billion in reservation change fees.

Other data from fourth-quarter 2010 have yet to be released.
