5 of 2013’s Most Charitable Entrepreneurs
Here are five of the billionaire entrepreneurs who joined Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gate’s Giving Pledge this year, promising to give the majority of their wealth away to charitable organizations.
1. Sara Blakely
Sara Blakely, the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire and the entrepreneur behind shapewear brand Spanx, is worth approximately $1 billion, according to Forbes. In her letter posted on the Giving Pledge website, Blakely promises to invest in women.
2. Bob Parsons
The founder of web-hosting site GoDaddy (well-known for its scandalous Super Bowl ads) is worth an estimated $1.9 billion, according to Forbes. Parsons and his wife Renee’s foundation is focused on providing children with nutrition, medical care and education.
3. Eric Lefkofsky
Groupon co-founder Eric Lefkofsky is worth an estimated $1.75 billion, according to Forbes. He and his wife Liz signed the pledge earlier this year.
4. Richard Branson
Virgin Group entrepreneur Richard Branson, worth an estimated $4.6 billion according to Forbes, says in his pledge that he and his wife Joan will invest “entrepreneurial approaches to help make a difference in the world.”
5. Craig McCaw
Entrepreneur Craig McCaw co-founded McCaw Cellular with his brothers and sold it to AT&T for $12.6 billion, according to Forbes. He is worth an estimated $1.8 billion, and he and his wife Susan pledge to continue their support for “education, international economic development, and environmental conservation.”
