Taya Kyle: Trump Has Better Veterans Affairs Reform Plan

During an interview on the FOX Business Network’s After the Bell, Taya Kyle, widow of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, shared her thoughts on how to improve the Veterans Affairs’ health care system.

“Unfortunately, I think there’s such a systemic problem in the VA that the only way to really fix it is to severely limit or really get rid of it,” Kyle said. “And I know that’s going to be sensitive for some people who get good care, but usually the people who are getting good care from the VA are active-duty, healthy people.”

Kyle, who said she doesn’t believe in a voucher system for veterans, added:

“What I think they should do is give them a private insurance—a PPO plan—and give them the option to—I think Donald Trump said—just to ‘opt-out.’ And I think that’s much more realistic than a plan to revamp it. It’s not going to happen.”

Commenting on which presidential candidate had the better plan for reforming the VA, Kyle said:

“I do think that Donald Trump’s plan in this situation—giving people an option to just opt-out of the VA’s medical care—that’s the better option for veterans.”
