Green Party’s Jill Stein Wants Free Higher Education

While the focus may be on 2016 political superstars, another party may be making a name for itself. And it isn’t the Libertarians.

The Green Party, and its presumptive presidential nominee Jill Stein, could capitalize on winning Sanders supporters who are frustrated and dismayed over the outcome of the Democratic race, especially after a hack of Democratic National Committee emails revealed a bias against Sanders.

“I can’t even go inside the Democratic National Convention without having a mob thronging around my campaign,” Stein said. “Because people in Bernie’s campaign, but even everyday people outside of Bernie—just normal Americans—feel like they are being thrown under the bus in this economy, in this election, in this rigged political system.“

By throwing his support behind Hillary Clinton, Stein says Sanders “has broken with his supporters,” and has altered U.S. politics.

“His movement is moving on,” she said. “In his own words, it’s a movement not a man and it’s not a moment, it’s a movement. So it has a future. His supporters have remarkably changed the political landscape in America.”

As for her own political platform, Stein explained her party’s policies and stances on political issues.

“We call for an emergency jobs program that we call a Green New Deal, like the New Deal that got us out of the Great Depression,” she said. “It solves the economic crisis at the same time that it solves the climate crisis.”

She said she’d also like to erase student debt for students who she said have “two hands tied behind their backs.”

“[We call for] making higher education free along with health care as a human right, a legal path and welcoming path to citizenship and a foreign policy that stops breaking our bank account while getting us more endangered not safe. We call for a foreign policy based on human rights and international law. It’s costing us half of our income tax but it’s not making us safer,” she contended.
