After sending out a tweet mocking the firing of Corey Lewandowski on Monday, Michael Caputo, who served as an advisor to Donald Trump, is resigning from his post.

Caputo joined the FOX Business Network’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast to discuss his relationship with Lewandowski.

“Corey and I haven’t gotten along very well and it got kind of personal,” Caputo said. “I think my exuberance over finding out about these fundamental changes in the campaign’s leadership got the best of me.”

Caputo explained why he made the decision to step down.

“I realized very quickly that I had done a real disservice to Donald Trump, so I did what a professional political operative does and I fell on my sword,” he said. “There’s no room for these unforced errors when you’re running against a juggernaut like Hillary Clinton and I didn’t avail myself well for my boss.”

Despite no longer being a part of the campaign, Caputo is optimistic about Trump’s future on the road to the White House.

“There’s really significant hires going on in this campaign that aren’t being trumpeted out there,” Caputo said. “And I think people on Capitol Hill, those who are expressing doubt about the Trump campaign are just throwing shade on it. There’s a lot more going on there. There are real positive things happening and you don’t have to look any further than Mr. Trump’s speech today.”
