This week we continue our focus on seasonal hiring. The three companies I bring to you still need positions filled, because many retailers  have to gauge sales and customer traffic before they decide who and where to hire. About 39% of companies say they plan to keep some of their seasonal workers through next year, giving them full-time or part-time positions.

My advice? Think of any seasonal work as an audition, or at least something to keep you busy while you job hunt.

TARGET (TGT) - American retailing company, and the second-largest discount retailer in the U.S., behind Wal-Mart (WMT).
*Plans to hire 80,000 to 90,000 seasonal team members to staff its stores and distribution centers
*Top Jobs: Sales Floor Team Members, Cashiers, Backroom Staff, Warehouse Workers
*Seasonal workers get a 10% team member merchandise discount
*Seasonal hiring began in July for distribution centers and in October for stores and will continue through December
*Last year, approximately 30% of seasonal team members continued on to become year-round Target team members.

HONEYBAKED HAM – known for its slow-smoked, spiral-sliced Honey Baked Hams and Turkey Breasts & other entrees, side items and desserts.
*Hiring 6,500 people nationwide
*Top Jobs: Production, Counter Sales Associates, Catering and Customer Service
*Part-time positions pay above minimum wage & seasonal employees also enjoy a store discount program. *Possible for a  seasonal job to become permanent
*Company-wide, they anticipate more than one million customers during the holiday season, from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.
*Each year, HoneyBaked increases its work force by 200% to meet the high demand and they have over 400 stores nationwide.

FEDEX (FDX) - American global courier delivery services company.
*Expected to hire nearly 20,000 seasonal workers, the same as last year. Also increasing hours for existing employees.
*Top Jobs: package handlers, parcel assistants, and drivers for both pickup and delivery and line haul operations
*Anticipates handling +280M shipments during the holiday season, up more than 13% from last year. *Busiest day is supposed to be Dec. 10 aka “Green Monday”
*Last year, more than one-third of the package handlers hired for seasonal work at FedEx Ground facilities retained employment with the company
