House Passes 6-Month Stopgap Funding Measure

Breaking: Late Thursday night, in a vote of 329 to 91, the Republican-lead U.S. House of Representatives approved a stopgap spending bill of $1.047 trillion. The measure allows the government to remain operational  for the next six months. The action by the House also prevents the threat of a shutdown fight which could potentially damage reelection hopes for lawmakers.

A vote on the stopgap measure is expected in the U.S. Senate next week. The bill must be signed into law before government funding runs out on September 30.
