AT&T names three cities for 5G deployment

AT&T (T) named the first three of the dozen cities that will get its mobile 5G network. Parts of Dallas, Atlanta, and Waco, Texas, are among the cities that will have mobile 5G coverage by the end of the year, and AT&T will announce additional cities in the "coming months."

This follows AT&T’s early January report that it expects to be the first U.S. company to introduce mobile 5G service in a dozen markets by late 2018. The company also said it will more 5G capable mobile devices and smartphones in early 2019 and beyond.”

AT&T’s mobile 5G network will have theoretical peak speeds of multiple gigabits per second and will also have much lower latency rates.

The company also noted that in order to meet the timeline for mobile 5G deployment, it will open a new 5G lab in Austin, Texas, to conduct tests related to the 5G mobile deployments.
