BlackBerry shares are zooming close to 8% higher in pre-market action after the Defense Department said its handsets will make up 98% of devices in a new mobile program. The smartphones have long been considered to be particularly secure, which has forced competitors like Apple and Google to try to catch up.

2. Alcoa [AA]


Alcoa shares are shooting higher in the pre-market after analysts at JPMorgan Chase reportedly upped their rating on the aluminum maker to 'overweight' from 'neutral.'

3. Delta Air Lines [DAL]


Delta Air Lines shares are flying higher in early trading after the airline posted a surge in fourth-quarter profits.

4. Gap [GPS]


Gap shares are zipping to the upside in pre-market action after analysts at Sterne Agee lifted their rating on the apparel maker to 'buy' from 'underperform.'

5. Gold


It's not a stock, but Gold is taking a 1% hit in early trading as the U.S. dollar advances as investors speculate the Federal Reserve will continue paring back its bond-buying program. The precious metal can be accessed via exchange-traded funds, like the popular SPDR Gold Trust [GLD].
