Consumer Stocks Hit All-Time Highs

A handful of consumer favorites are on track to close in record territory today. Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) is benefitting from an upgrade to buy from neutral at Janney Capital, with a price target of $525.

Constellation Brands (NYSE:STZ) is surging almost 3% on no news; perhaps investors are betting that Americans, sick and tired of all the debt-ceiling bickering in Washington, will drown their sorrows in booze.

Either way, shares of the world’s largest winemaker have been a favorite with the momentum crowd, up 77% in 2013 and hitting their 43rd record high of the year.  Finally, Kroger (NYSE:KR) and Whole Foods Market (NYSE:WFM) are rising in sympathy with Safeway (NYSE:SWY). Investors and analysts are cheering the supermarket giant’s decision to exit the Chicago market and shift its emphasis to growing sales.
