The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, XLU was up 0.2% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 went up -1.1%.
Enersis (ENI) was a major loser in the sector, falling 11.8% (-$2.25) to close at $16.78 with 1.9 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $16.16 to $18.47. The stock has lost momentum over the last three months, losing $3.49 (-17.2%) from $20.27 on April 30, 2012.
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P (BIP) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 3.6%. The stock closed at $34.24 with 359,316 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $33.49 to $34.34. Share price is up $1.43 (4.4%) from $32.81 on June 26, 2012.
Sempra Energy (SRE) rose 2.4% to close at $69.68, cross its 50-day moving average of $68.14 and 200-day moving average of $62.75. Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (EOC) declined 2.9% to close at $50.38, moving below its 50-day moving average of $50.85 and 200-day moving average of $50.63.
Atlas Energy (ATLS) rose 1.8% to close at $31.05, approaching its 50-day moving average of $31.10. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $31.06. Pampa Energia (CWT) fell 1.1% to close at $4.30, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $4.24. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $18.14.
