The Financial sector (XLF) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.3% during trading today.

Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLF was up 9.2% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 6.5%.

Mesa Royalty (MTR) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 11.8% (-$4.06) to close at $30.20, as 25,939 shares moved. The stock traded between $27.44 and $34.12. Over the last three months, the stock has lost $8.08 (-21.1%) from a price of $38.28 on April 4, 2012.

Credit Acceptance (CACC) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 9.8% (+$8.26) to close at $92.69 with 59,968 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $83.82 to $92.69. Shares have been on an upward trajectory over the past month, rising $11.64 (14.4%) from a price of $81.05 on June 1, 2012. Amerisafe (AMSF) was another big mover, climbing $1.86 (+7.2%) to a closing price of $27.81.

Corpbanca Sociedad Anonima (BCA) fell 5.5% to close at $18, crossing its 50-day moving average of $18.94. Meanwhile, Acacia Research Corporation (ACTG) climbed 6.7% to close at $39.72, moving past its 200-day moving average of $37.90.

Suffolk Bancorp (UNH) fell 5.3% to close at $12.28, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $11.92. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $54.92. Green Dot Corporation (GDOT) rose 9.6% to close at $24.25, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $26.44.
