The S&P 500 lost 1.6% while the Utilities sector (XLU) showed little movement during trading today.

As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. As trading began today, XLU was up 1.2% over the last thirty trading days, and the S&P 500 climbed -2%.

Cadiz (CDZI) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6.4% (-56 cents) to close at $8.16, as 29,306 shares moved. The stock traded between $8.12 and $8.70. The stock has lost momentum over the last three months, losing $2.35 (-22.4%) from $10.51 on February 7, 2012.

EnerNOC (ENOC) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.9% (+34 cents) to close at $6.12 with 620,912 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $5.78 to $6.19.

NRG Energy (NRG) declined 4.6% to close at $15.47, moving below its 50-day moving average of $15.91 and 200-day moving average of $17.82. Pepco Holdings (POM) rose 1.5% to close at $18.89, crossing its 50-day moving average of $18.80.

ITC Holdings (ITC) rose 2.8% to close at $73.95, approaching its 50-day moving average of $76.74. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $75.05.
