While the S&P 500 grew 0.4%, the Utilities sector (XLU) showed little movement during trading today.

The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. As trading began today, XLU was up 1.5% over the last thirty trading days, and the S&P 500 climbed -1.7%.

U.S. Geothermal (HTM) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 4.6% (-2 cents) to close at 44 cents. 36,565 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded in a range of 43 cents to 45 cents. Shares have been on on the rise over the past three months, climbing 11 cents (20.2%) from a price of 55 cents on March 23, 2012.

Niska Gas Storage Partners (NKA) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 4.2% (+49 cents) to close at $12.07 with 830,970 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $11.60 to $12.85. Share price is up, having risen $2.76 (29.6%) from $9.31 on March 23, 2012.

NRG Energy (NRG) rose 3.6% to close at $15.90, cross its 50-day moving average of $15.83 and 200-day moving average of $18.05.

Enbridge (DPM) fell 0.8% to close at $39.54, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $38.89. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $45.09.

Cheniere Energy Partners L.P (CQP) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $25.75 to top the previous high of $25.

EDENOR (EDN) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $2.45 to fall below the previous low of $2.53.
