‘Tangled’ Beats ‘Harry Potter’ at Weekend Box Office With $21.5M

Disney’s animated 3D film “Tangled,” a take on the classic Rapunzel story with the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, earned $21.5 million in its second weekend, bringing its total gross to $96.5 million dollars, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

“Tangled” was able to surpass “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1,” which earned $16.7 million and beat the fairy tale over the Thanksgiving weekend to take top honors at the US box office. The cumulative domestic gross of “Deathly Hallows" is now $244 million.

The week’s only new wide release, the Western fantasy “The Warrior’s Way,” grossed $3.1 million. Meanwhile, the dark indie thriller “Black Swan,” with Natalie Portman, earned an excellent $1.4 million from 18 screens, bringing its per screen average to an amazing $77,459.
