Gallup: Business Owners Unhappy With President Obama

As the race to the White House heats up, more business owners say they disapprove of the job President Obama is doing for the country, according to a Gallup poll.

Business owners’ approval of Obama fell to 35% in the second quarter of 2012, according to the nation-wide poll. This approval rating fell 6% from the first quarter in which 41% of business owners said they approved of the job the president is doing. Obama polls best with professional, office, clerical, and service workers, all of whom approve of his work at nearly 50%, according to Gallup.

Those in farming, fishing or forestry work disapprove of Obama’s job at around 57%, Gallup found. The poll is based on interviews with 25,464 adults. The survey asks the respondents to describe the work they do, then codes them into one of 11 job categories.

Gallup said Obama polls best when compared with Republican nominee Mitt Romney among voters who are in professional and service work settings. On the flip side, Romney polls best when pitted against Obama with those who work in farming and fishing or construction, and among business owners.

The overall average for the second quarter of the year for all Americans has more people approving of the president’s job, Gallup found. Forty-seven percent said they approve of Obama’s work as president, and 47% disapproved, this is slightly improved from 45% approval and 48% approval in the first quarter.
