The labor pool is shrinking – and will likely get smaller. According to Friday’s Labor Department jobs report, the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 4.7% and the workforce added 2.2 million jobs in 2016.

“The jobs report today indicated that the economy is still in a moderate expansion… What that means for employers is the pond’s getting smaller and it’s harder for people to find and attract the people they need,” Adam Robinson, co-founder and CEO of Hireology, told FOXBusiness.com.

Founded in 2010 and now serving 4,000 businesses, Hireology is a technology company whose hiring and retention platform allows business to build and maintain their teams.

“Companies need to treat recruiting like a sales process because it is. So if you are trying to attract customers or job applicants to your business, you need to market to them in a way that connects,” Robinson adds.

And for one demographic, millennials, that’s especially true.

“The millennial workforce is the workforce,” Robinson said.

In fact, in 2015 millennials became the largest generation in the U.S. labor force at 34%, according to Pew Research.

“The myth is that millennial demographic or Gen Z demographic is that they are lazy and job hoppers … that’s just not true. What they are is they have high expectations and they expect to be inspired and they know their skills are valued,” says Robinson.
