“What we need to do is have an all-of-the-above policy, and I’m willing to compete with gas, nuclear and the other low-cost means for generating electricity with our coal -- as long as the government stays out of it and allows the marketplace to make the decisions,” he said.

Since President Obama took office in 2008, U.S. coal production has dropped 36 percent, according to FactCheck.org. In 2015, employment at U.S. coal mines fell 12%, to the lowest level since 1978, according to EIA data.

Murray, who has been outspoken about the Obama administration’s energy policy, discussed why he believes Donald Trump will follow through on his pledge to “make America great again.”

“He has the passion, he has the commitment and he has the mandate to do it, and he will follow through and he must be very bold and not be distracted …. and cleaning up the destruction of the Obama Administration… the place he needs to start is in the Justice Department, because there are more criminals supporting Obama’s outlaws activity department than anywhere in the government,” he said.
