The $150 million roof took two years to make and features two panels on top of a 6,500-ton steel superstructure and is covered to provide shade for the spectators. The roof, which is expected to be used only for rain, will be illuminated by 360 LED sports lights.
The world’s largest stadium’s new roof will also don a Chase (JPM) logo that fans can see from the highway and subway on both the north and south sides of the building.
The roof is expected to be ready for the beginning of the U.S. Open on August 29.
