“I think it’s the world events. I think current affairs in the world… and people are more concerned about a lack of security out there today so they’re taking matters into their own hands and they can afford to do it, to put safe rooms in,” said Gaffco Ballistics CEO Tom Gaffney.

He says the company can build a room of any size using bullet-proof Kevlar wall material and bullet-proof glass.

On the company’s sales in 2015, Gaffney said, “Residential, we did about 18.” But this year, “so far, residential alone, 12, and something like eight corporate jobs,” Gaffney told the FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney.

He said residents are not only safe from bullets in safe rooms, but also gas.

“We put in an air filtration system that protects you against nuclear, biological and chemical gases, which is what is really involved in a dirty bomb. So you’re safe from that as well,” he said.

How much does a safe room cost?

“Generally it’s the master bedroom we’re doing today, not just the walk-in closet, we’re doing the entire bedroom because it makes sense to lock down the doors, you’re probably talking about $300K-$400K for something of that nature,” he said.

Gaffney then described the company’s typical customers.

“My particular clients are the one-percenters, very affluent people and they may or may not have a higher concern for security than the regular people on the street,” he said.
