Newt Gingrich: Trump Will Keep Getting Better and Better

This election season has been fiercer than ever before. A new Fox News poll released Wednesday evening shows Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, holding a slight lead over his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich weighed in on the latest poll data, explaining why he thinks the GOP candidate is slightly ahead of Clinton.

“A couple of things are going on,” Gingrich told the FOX Business Network’s Lou Dobbs. “One is that Hillary is losing on basic honesty, the scandals involving the Clinton foundation and her email scandal.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Trump revealed his potential picks for the next Supreme Court justice. That candidate would fill the vacancy of the late Antonin Scalia, who died unexpectedly in February. Gingrich believes Trump’s decision to release the list of names was a step in the right direction.

“I don’t think any reasonable conservative can do anything except try to help elect Trump in order to block Hillary from appointing a radical Supreme Court,” he said.

The former house speaker said the ongoing controversies plaguing Clinton will lead to her downfall.

“She has just never been a good candidate," he said. "I think that it’s all beginning to crumble around them [the Clinton campaign]. I think they will get more desperate as they watch Trump get better and better."
