Kissinger argued we need a clear strategy abroad and at home to deal with ISIS.

“We have to find a means of destroying them. It isn’t simply a matter of containing them -- it’s an issue of destroying them… It cannot be dealt with purely as a police issue in the United States… There needs to be an outcome of the Syrian civil war… And then we can have an international order in which we identify the key elements of people that are supporting us and the elements that are opposing us,” he said.

He said Europe also needs to “take a look at their position.”

“They’ve been taking a free ride on the American military efforts around the world…and with a massive flow of immigration, that creates an implication of a change in the whole pattern of living,” he said.

“I don’t think we can build a wall that excludes everybody… I do not favor exclusion on the basis of religion.” He added, “I have not endorsed him… If he were the Republican nominee I would urge him not to make such a blanket exclusion and I would only be more comfortable with another nominee.”

Kissinger said America needs to “accept” and “embrace” its permanent role in the international environment.

“We have to understand that the international environment has substantially changed from what we feel most familiar with, and that it is more complicated, there are more pieces and the United States is indispensable in bringing about a rode to a solution. That is absolutely essential.”
