Nicklaus Shoots Hole-In-One As Masters Tees Off

The 79th playing of the Masters at Augusta National started off with a bang thanks to Jack Nicklaus, aka “the Golden Bear.”

Playing in a group with legends Gary Player and Ben Crenshaw, Nicklaus proved to the gallery that he still has it, when he used his 8 iron to shoot a hole-in-one at the 130-yard fourth hole of the Par 3 contest.

A hole-in-one is no easy feat, even for the best in the world.

To give some perspective, according to the Masters, there have been 85 total aces since the Par 3 contest began in 1960. Coincidentally, Gary Player and Ben Crenshaw each have 3, while Nicklaus now becomes the oldest at age 75 to get a hole-in-one.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods, who last won the Masters in 2005. A win Sunday would be his fifth green jacket following his first win in 1997.

Woods has 15 Major championships under his belt, only eclipsed by Nicklaus, who holds 18 Majors titles.

Some golf-related stock names to follow include Oxford Industries (OXM), a producer of golf apparel, whose stock is up over 38% YTD, Callaway Golf (ELY), up over 23%, Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS), up nearly 19% and Nike (NKE), up over 5%. These compare to the S&P 500, which is up just 1.3% over the same period.
