Small Business Spotlight: Celadon Road

Who: Kimberly Cornwell, 37, @CeladonRoad

What: Organic and eco-friendly direct-sale company

Where: North Attleboro, Mass.

When: 2008

How: Cornwell first started thinking of opening up her own business in 2006 when she had her first child, and started to research green and organic products. A year later, her company began laying off employees, and she knew she wanted to help put people back to work.

“By the end of that day, I realized I needed to do something where I was giving people jobs instead of taking them away,” Cornwell said.

She soon was inspired at a friend’s “shop-at-home” party, and by 2008 found herself opening up Celadon Road selling all green and organic products. Today, Cornwell works as an attorney by day to supplement the burgeoning business.

Quote from the owner: “We have something for everyone. My whole concept is that if we can get consumers to make small green changes in their lives, that will have a more profound impact than a few people going extremely green,” she said.
